  5. This document contains important information about network
  6. backups: 
  7. - Novell 2.x - 3.x network backup
  8. - Novell 4.x network backup
  9. - Windows95 network/Windows for Workgroups network backup
  10. - Windows NT network backup
  11.  
  12. It also includes the following information: 
  13. - Special note about the HP Colorado T3000 tape drive
  14. - Installing external HP Colorado tape drives
  15. - Power-Management (GREEN) Computers
  16.

  22. NOVELL 2.x - 3.x NETWORK BACKUP
  23.  
  24.   To backup Novell 2.x - 3.x servers, use either:
  25.   - Colorado Backup for DOS 
  26.     (reboot from DOS) 
  27.        or 
  28.   - Colorado Backup for Windows 
  29.     (reboot to DOS, then Windows 3.x)  
  30.  
  31.   *DO NOT USE* Colorado Backup for Windows 95 to 
  32.    back up a Novell 2.x or 3.x server.

  34.   To back up Win95 workstations, use Microsoft's Windows 
  35.   95 built-in Cheyenne ARCserve Client software (if the 
  36.   appropriate server application is installed on the server).

  42. NOVELL 4.x NETWORK BACKUP
  43.  
  44.   Your Colorado PowerDAT or PowerTape (SCSI) tape drive 
  45.   must be installed on the server. IDE tape drives are
  46.   not supported on the server.

  48.   To back up Novell 4.x servers, use NLM software. 
  49.  
  50.   To back up Win95 workstations, use Microsoft's Windows 
  51.   95 built-in Cheyenne ARCserve Client software (if the 
  52.   appropriate server application is installed on the server).

  55.   *DO NOT USE* Colorado Backup for DOS, Colorado Backup 
  56.   for Windows (Windows 3.x), or Colorado Backup for 
  57.   Windows 95 to backup a Novell 4.x server.

  62. WINDOWS 95 NETWORK BACKUP
  63. WINDOWS FOR WORKGROUPS NETWORK BACKUP
  64.  
  65.   Colorado Backup for Windows 95 (CBW95) supports 
  66.   Win95 Network and Windows for Workgroups networks.   
  67.  
  68.   IMPORTANT: CBW95 will back up *ONLY* the Win95 registry
  69.   of the PC to which the tape drive is attached; the Win95
  70.   registry of a remote PC will not be backed up. 
  71.  
  72.   REMEMBER: Certain Windows 95 system files will always 
  73.   appear "in use."

  78. WINDOWS NT NETWORK BACKUP
  79.  
  80.   Your Colorado PowerDAT or PowerTape (SCSI) tape drive 
  81.   must be installed on the server.

  83.   To back up NT servers, use Microsoft's built-in Windows
  84.   NT drivers or appropriate 3rd party software.

  87.   To backup Win95 workstations, use Microsoft's Windows 
  88.   95 built-in Arcada Backup Exec Client for NT software 
  89.   (if the appropriate server application is installed on 
  90.   the server). See QICFAX document #2421 for more infor-
  91.   mation.

  95. +++ NOTE:
  96. Currently, there are no plans to include additional 
  97. network support in future versions of Colorado Backup for 
  98. Windows 95 software.

  101. SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT THE HP COLORADO T3000 TAPE DRIVE
  102.  
  103. Your HP Colorado T3000 tape drive is designed to work with a 
  104. 1 Mbit/sec or faster native floppy controller. 
  105.  
  106. If your computerÆs floppy controller runs at 500 Kbit/sec
  107. or you want to run your drive at 2 Mbit/sec, you must 
  108. purchase an FC-20 Tape Drive Controller Board. Call Customer 
  109. Support for more information. (See the T3000 Installation 
  110. Guide for telephone numbers.)

  113. INSTALLING EXTERNAL HP COLORADO TAPE DRIVES
  114.  
  115. If you attach your external tape drive with Colorado Backup  
  116. already open, the drive may not be detected. Simply close the 
  117. Colorado Backup program and start it again to detect the drive.
  118.  
  119. HP Colorado T1000e in Windows 95....
  120. If you are still having problems after trying the above:
  121.  
  122. 1. Turn your computer off.
  123.  
  124. 2. Turn your computer on.
  125.  
  126. 3. Install the T1000e's data cable.
  127.  
  128. 4. Install the T1000e's power cable.
  129.  
  130. 5. Insert a tape into the drive.
  131.  
  132. 6. Follow the Installation Guide's directions for Installing 
  133. the Software.
  134.  
  135. If you are having problems:
  136. A. Click the Uninstall icon.
  137. B. Right-click on the My Computer icon. 
  138. C. Click the Device Manager tab.
  139. D. Verify that the HPTAPE and TAPEDRIVE sections are deleted. 
  140. E. Go to step one above.

  143. POWER-MANAGEMENT (GREEN) COMPUTERS
  144.  
  145. If your computer has a power-management feature that shuts off 
  146. your computer after xx minutes since the last keyboard input...
  147. you may experience problems with certain operations that exceed 
  148. the time limit.
  149.  
  150. Turn off the power-management feature when:
  151.  
  152. - running a long operation, such as formatting a tape
  153.  
  154. - running a full-system backup
  155.  
  156. - running a scheduled operation, such as an unattended
  157. backup in the middle of the night
  158.  
  159. Check your computer's manual to find out how to turn off or
  160. change the time limit of the power-management feature.
